Deimateos wrote:Ideally, we'd need 12+ tracks and about the same number of artists, and there should probably be a contribution limit (2 per artist or something). The only other things to take care of would be artwork and where to host the finished comp! We could also have a document in the comp zip that has each artist's web info (myspace/website or email) in case someone we send the link to likes a certain artist (for fandom or business)

(This compilation has been re-posted from the Collab List)

As explained by Deimateos, if you would be willing to submit one or two tracks for free on the FiXT Store and contribute them to the compilation, please post a reply to this topic or email yours truly at mnicola@jjc.edu. This applies for graphic deisgners too! If you'd like to help design the artwork for the compilation, reply to this post as well.

This is not an exclusive compilation! This is open to anyone who wishes to join! But by participating, you must agree to:
- keep the team up to date; communication is key!
- make the deadlines; make enough time to master your song to excellence
- provide information and artwork with your song (lyrics, duration, track name, etc.)
- compromise sacrificing tracks to make room for a new artist (always up for debate)

- Finally, submit all your finished tracks for the compilation to the project manager. A manager will be decided for the volume project and will be in charge of handling the tracks and setting up the compilation.

The submissions are currently closed for the first volume. Be sure to check the collab forum for the newest compilation discussion and GET INVOLVED! Thank you to all who participated in Dismantled: Vol. 1.

Dismantled: Vol. 1 - Coming soon to the FiXT Store!

But before we get too excited, Lightwave brought up an excellent point in his email to me that we need to take this up with James Rhodes, and make sure it is acceptable to submit a compilation feature/product to the FiXT Store. We're off to a good start, but we need to make sure there actually will be a finish line when we're all done (before we continue to jog).

Once Jim has given us the green flag, we'll discuss formats, track listing, artwork, and the master database to submit all songs to.

Just quoted this from the "wrong thread" to answer here :)

yes, but why only FiXT? Why not get it out there? I mean, I am sure a lot of artists see this as a opportunity to get some of their best music out there, at least I do, and that makes me pick the 1/2 best track(s) I have, which will basicly mean that this comp would be really awesome to listen to. Besides I don't think the track(s) I'm gonna submit is anything FiXT is interested in.

And now I just figured out, that we're doing a comp, so what I wanted to say was/is completely wrong / out of the picture. Dunno why I thought it was gonna be a mixtape kind of thing where every song came together.. D'oh!

haha Sorry nevermind me :)

It could still come together Co3. After all, we did "come together" under this forum to establish an idea of a huge collab collection. It may be still called a mixtape depending how the listener interprets it, but don't forget that the contributing artists here are coming from different backgrounds of electronica, and we can tell by the way we did our Celldweller remixes in the past 6 rounds.

However, I respect your idea to spread news about the comp, and promoting it in more places than just the FiXT store. But if that is the case, then how will the distribution method be progressed? Will we hand it to random people in big cities? Will we put it in random places on our school campuses?

Or will there actually be a price for putting a comp together in hopes that we sell it to people? I was actually thinking of giving this thing out for free, because if it sells for a price on the FiXT Store, then we have to worry about distributing the income equally and dedicate it to one person to receive it all.

In the meantime, somebody has to contact Amber and see if she has free time to put together a 500 x 500 picture for the comp.

I'd advise against charging for this, surely the idea is just to try and get the music to a wider audience, I think a price would put people off.

QFT

I'm bit confused as to when this became a purchasable comp... I know everyone here would like to make some money on their music, but it won't happen until people listen to it. You can't expect thousands of people to pony up cash for some "unknown" artist, you have to prove to them that you're worth the money first!

I have a question. Are you guys only looking for instrumental tracks? All of my stuff I'm working on will eventually have vocals, and I cater more to the Industrial genre. If everybody is alright with that, throw me on that list. I haven't released anything, since this is a new project for me. My background was in Metal, and I got bored with it, and got brought back to my electronic roots.

No problem, man. I'm sure. As long as its good :)

This is another thing I was thinking about.. Who really decides if a track is "good enough" to be put on it/the comp?
I mean, of course everyone should have "a chance" to get on it, if you know what I mean. I better explain this;
What I mean is, that this isn't a "closed" compilation but still the tracks on it should be quite good mixing wise and there is no point in having a comp being utterly destroyed by a track that sounds like, well, horse poop.

Maybe I am a bit of a quality freak, but yeah. I am so selfish that I won't have the first tracks I get out there to be remembered as this "oooh yeah.. that compilation which had that bad bad bad track"
Bad always go over the good, when it comes to stuff like that. It's always easier to remember and I do it my self sadly.. I hear a bad track I skip over it / change CD before it even goes 30 secs in.
and when I say bad, I don't mean genre wise, since that is a personal reference. I mean on the technical side of things, like, out of tune / sync, Really bad mixing, Clipping and so on.

Just a few thoughts.

I would have no problem what so ever with free distributing of the comp, or having a download link for it to be downloaded around the net. Having FiXT to store the link / Comp ,on their server, I would have no problem with what so ever as well, but I doubt they will do it for free though.. Even though it would get them some "potential customers"
(We need some really charismatic, evil and wise Person to convince FiXT to host it :P lol)

I would rather drop this off a thousand places my self then set it up for sale, for only a "few" people to find it.
Think about it!
I am from Denmark, Shami from England, Granola from North Cal, the list goes on and I am pretty sure we can get people from other locations to hand this out / drop it at random locations.. I know a bunch of Music stores all over Sjaelland (which is kinda 1/3 of Denmark) who will most likely have this thing on the desk at their store to hand out. I would have no problem, with printing / making / buying a lot of hard covers and CD-R disks. I am know people who would have no problem with it either.

The opportunities are enormous!

I think the free distribution idea is great, and also, Fixt has some free remix EPs up already, so this isn't much different.

I can't see why FiXT would have a problem with it, it's another way of getting the FiXT name out there. And people who enjoy the album may come back and either buy the remix compilations that involve those artists or those artists individual works.

Cool jumping beans! This topic came to life like a spanked baby out of labor!

Hey Tiger, I'll put your name up for now until you think you have a different artist name.

So far, I don't see a deadline for this comp. We're doing good by taking our time, and I think the winter season will be the perfect time for artists to stay indoors and work on some music. I hope we may get this done by July of 2010, because that's around the time I graduate, and I wanted my Vis-com teachers to share some media and audio with the comp we created.

That sounds perfect. So it's 2 songs max from each artist, right? I have some songs that are quite a bit different than my others, so it would be cool to get a bit from both sides of my "genre-range."

I already have my old, but "best" song, Exotensual for this (if people are down, though I may re-sequence a few things), and am working on another more Grime-y track for this. Winter sounds like a great time to really set the bar for this, since some of us are working on the Remix comps again, and I bet hearing I Will Never Be the Same with some new ears will get the creative juices flowing...

I'm slowly realizing I may be one of the dying breed - an American Dubstep/Experimental artist, and I only accidentally did it, haha.

count me in on designing!

edit: oh and the image cannot be 500X500. When you make the Compilation it has to be the size of the CD over. I'll take care of the resolution and sizings
